Everyone’s a Marketer!

By: Matt Tiedgen

From recent college graduates with various liberal arts degrees and newly appointed CMO’s with accounting backgrounds, to social media influencers with phone cameras and opinionated podcasters, everyone’s a marketer, right? Let’s clarify. Everyone has ideas, thoughts, and opinions about marketing because everyone has access to it. That doesn’t qualify as a strategic marketer.

Strategic marketers have distinct advantages that separate from others. Certifications. Artistic skills and craft. Relevant experience and perspective. First-party data and results. They ask pointed questions, understand language, learn specifics of profitability and markets, and test backend processes to manage user expectations responding to ads.

“I think” isn’t a starting point. “Save money” isn’t a strategy. Vanity views and clicks aren’t qualifying analytics. Those at the company running the ads aren’t the target. A restaurant owner trying to run deep discounts on Monday and Tuesday nights is taking a slow traffic, low revenue night and making it less profitable. A strategic marketer doesn’t look for a fix or try to make users uncomfortable for a deal. A strategic marketer leans into a brand’s desired attributes, understands what makes them unique, and positions them in relevant stories that make sense to connected audiences.

When in doubt, a strategic marketer is worth the investment.

Thank you!
